The Faithful Gardener

people do say that it is always darkest just before dawn...

The Faithful Gardener

31st August 19

A Prayer:

Refuse to fall down
If you cannot refuse to fall down,
refuse to stay down.
If you cannot refuse to stay down,
lift your heart toward heaven,
and like a hungry beggar,
ask that it be filled,
and it will be filled.
You may be pushed down.
You may be kept from rising.
But no one can keep you
from lifting your heart
toward heaven -
only you.
It is in the middle of misery
that so much becomes clear.
The one who says nothing good
came of this;
is not yet listening.

This poignant poem is at the end of a wonderful book titled "The Faithful Gardener" by poet, psychoanalyst and author Clarissa Pinkola Estes.  It is a heartwarming tale of endurance and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of overpowering adversity.  A sobering reminder that we can all cast our eyes heavenward, and open our hearts to something greater than we are, whatever we conceive that to be, and no matter how desperate our situation.

C. P. Estes works are priceless treasures to lift the spirits and warm the hearts of those who are open to receiving them.  Who does not benefit from such nurturing?
